Hygiene In Beauty Therapy

The beauty therapy industry which covers sectors ranging from large spas through to specialist skin care clinics and smaller high street beauty therapy salons is required to apply high standards of hygiene both in terms of staff training and in the equipment used.

One of the most important elements for implementing high hygiene standards is to install appropriate washing facilities in close proximity to where the therapist will be working.
It is not just practical, it instils a sense of trust and confidence in your clients.

This is an area where Notjusttaps has supplied salons with sinks and taps both with extended levers that allow elbow operation and also infra red ‘non touch’ taps.

Our expertise allows us to advise on and recommend products that meet required hygiene standards whilst looking stylish, ‘spa-like’ and fit for purpose.

We know that in this industry appearance is important –  If you are planning to open, build or refurbish a beauty therapy salon, speak to us at Notjusttaps and we will be happy to offer guidance and advice on suitable taps, sinks and related handwashing products.

HTM64 Traps

HTM64-bottle-trap

Our medical and healthcare division provides and extensive range of elbow taps, HTM64 compliant sinks and relevant free flowing flush grated wastes.
To provide full HTM64 compliance, the waste water should exit through a resealing bottle trap (one with a backflow prevention mechanism).
Notjusttaps now provides this with the option of a rigid plastic HTM64 resealing bottle trap by Armitage Shanks or the Pro Senzo Spacesaver bottle trap by Wirquin – both may be used in concealed or exposed applications.
In addition to these traps, there is also available a soft silicone bottle trap that gives when contact is made – it is ideally suited for users such as care homes, nursing homes or for wheelchair users.
Details of these traps can be found here  Medical & Care Bottle Traps

Totally Safe Bathing

It is a constant concern for care and nursing homes that bathing water is at a safe temperature that avoids burns or scalds, this is especially a particular concern where the elderly are involved.

Whilst we already provide TMV2 & TMV3 blending valves to control water temperatures, we have introduced care industry thermostatic bath shower mixers for use in all areas of the care and nursing industries where safety is absolutely paramount.
The TMV2 Lever Action Thermostatic Bath Shower Mixer comes with a host of features and is suitable for all water pressures. Its  lever action ceramic disk valves also makes it a suitable option for those with impaired mobility

Quarter Turn Tap Valves

One of the most common problems that plumbers get called out for is that of leaking taps.
This is an area where Notjusttaps specialises…

Our portfolio of replacement tap valves and cartridges is already the most comprehensive available but gets a further boost with the addition of quarter turn tap valves with 24/8 splines (splines with 24 teeth).
These will repair a number of taps sold in the UK for which spare valves have not previously been available.

Perhaps this is one reason why we are chosen by many plumbers, facilities managers and maintenance professionals as their source for tap spares.

HTM64 Sinks

We believe providing a complete solution to our customers needs is a vital part of Notjusttaps’ service. To this extend we have added special HTM64 stainless steel sinks to our medical portfolio.
These sinks have been selected in the most commonly requested sizes and specifications to give our customers the widest choice of layouts whilst still meeting HTM64 standards.
…And we pride ourselves on being at the end of the phone to provide knowledgeable advice and guidance for customers looking to install or upgrade their sanitary fittings in the most cost effective manner.

Health & Safety within the food and catering industries is of paramount consideration where the standards of hygiene vary enormously.
This is highlighted by the recent news of a food poisoning outbreak at a pub in Essex which resulted in widespread sickness and the death of one customer.
Correct health and safety protects customers and is simply good business practice. This involves not only control of ingredients, and best practices with regards to keeping foodstuffs but also requires thorough staff training and having suitable washing facilities.

Hand Hygiene – Selection of Relevant Hand Washing Taps, Sinks & Equipment

In order to assist healthcare industry workers and professionals choose handwashing equipment that is compliant with best practice guidelines as required by NHS authorities (HTM64)  and the CQC, we have written a guide to equipment required to meet these standards:

Scope

Relevant sectors will include medical, minor surgery, general practitioners & dental practitioners. This may also be helpful for non invasive healthcare practitioners such as opticians

Infection Control

Hand Hygiene is considered one of the most critical elements in reducing the spread of infection. Whilst the remit for infection control is widespread and should be considered in its’ entirety, the guidance in this article refers only to the provision of equipment for hand washing facilities.

Hand Wash Basins, Sinks & Taps

  • Basins & Sinks should not have overflow, plugs or chain stays
  • Taps should be elbow operated (extended lever), sensor operated or knee operated
  • The spout must not be located directly over the waste outlet as this can lead to splash back of micro-organisms from the waste drain
  • A free draining  unslotted (non overflow) waste outlet without plug should be fitted to sink/waste

Supplementary Equipment

  • Hand disinfectant and soap dispensers should be of the wall mounted types
  • Paper towels must always be used and towel dispensers should be wall mounted within easy access of the washbasin
  • A foot operated pedal bin should be used in conjunction with the above

Location

As a guide, the hand washing facility should be away from areas where splashing occurs and should be outside curtained examination rooms where applicable.

This article can be found on Notjusttaps. Please contact the technical sales department if you need any advice or would like to discuss the selection of suitable sinks and taps.
